Not all ceramic vessels are made on the wheel with one of the main methods of construction being slabbing. Using a roller machine rather like an old fashioned mangle, the clay is squeezed down to the desired thickness. You can then cut out the component parts and join them together. It is great fun and you can build some really interesting shapes in a relatively short time.

If you would like to try slabbing it is generally part of our ceramics evening class but if you can't wait for that you can book a group slabbing workshop ( min 6 people ) where you can make tiles, vases, boxes or tea light houses similar to the ones you can see in the picture above. The cost per person is £25.00 to include tuition and one firing.  To book please call or email us with your requirements. We can accommodate up to 20 people in our downstairs ceramics studio.
